Final blog assesment

If you have read my last post, you should know that I've started to read a book called Taken. My brother recommended it to me and told me it is a very interesting and good book, so I'm going to start reading it!
I currently just started the second chapter in this book. In the first chapter it goes into detail about one of the four main characters life, Judd. He actually runs away from home. This is quite shocking to me considering how he grew up in a Christian home and always listened to his parents. But it says that over the years he drifted from that and became embarrassed of going to church and participating in church related events.
His parents-specifically mom- are very tough on him and he thought that getting away would be a good choice. He didn't do it because it was all overwhelming to him though. He simply did it because he wanted to live a little. (Not a good choice in my opinion) The last sentence of the first chapter says, "Judd Thompson Jr. couldn't wait. This was already the most exciting night of his life" (Jenkins, LaHaye 10). This quote goes further on to support that all he wants is a little fun. I'm curious as to what's going to happen to him though. Will he get caught for running away? Is he going to regret his decision once he realizes what he's doing? How are the other characters going to play a part in his life?
Those are most of my thoughts going into the second chapter. Personally, I would never do anything as risky as to what Judd is doing. I would be too scared of the consequences that I would be bombarded with once reality kicks in.

1.    What specific words/phrases demonstrate your writer’s voice? How / why do these words/phrases showcase your personality as a writer?
·         Some specific words/phrases that demonstrated my voice in this blog post was, “I would be too scared of the consequences that I would be bombarded with once reality kicks in.” and/or “He simply did it because he wanted to live a little. (Not a good choice in my opinion)” These examples show my voice because I put some of my opinion into in on how I feel if I were to be in the characters position.

2.  What purposeful diction AND syntax choices did you make to enhance your writer’s voice? You must choose to discuss at least one diction AND one syntax technique from the list below. Make sure to include textual evidence from your post where you included the diction and syntax choices you discuss.
·         The purposeful diction I used to enhance my writers voice was more Low/informal, casual and conversational. For example, in this blog post I wrote, “This is quite shocking to me considering how he grew up in a Christian home and always listened to his parents” As you can see I don’t use a lot of elevated diction because I want the reader to know my thoughts and not some out-of-the- textbook sentence. The purposeful syntax I used to enhance my writers voice was sentence length. I used somewhat short sentences. My example for this is, “He didn't do it because it was all overwhelming to him though. He simply did it because he wanted to live a little” I used shortened sentences to get my point across quickly. No need to add more; just get straight to the point!

About the authors

I kind of want to change up this blog and not focus on the book I'm reading... Shocking right? Haha but anyways, in this blog I will be focusing and the authors of the book I'm reading, Taken. Yes, there is more than one author so I did a little research on both and they are some interesting and successful people!
The first author I will go into detail about is Jerry B. Jenkins. Jenkins is the Chairman of the board of trustees for the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. He is also the author of more than 180 books! (That's pretty impressive). He has been awarded with several honorary doctorates due to all of his works. Jenkins also owns a filmmaking company in Chicago. And according to his website his movies have won several prizes. He also owns the Christians Writers Guide. This program helps people become better writers and has over 1,000 members! Jenkins also goes around and speaks about writing on top of everything else. He has a wife, 3 grown kids and 8 grandchildren! ...I'm not a stalker I swear... I'm just getting this info from his official website. If would like to know more about his works then here's the link: http://jerry-jenkins.com/about/
The second authors name is Tim LaHaye; he is mostly recognized for being an author, minister, and nationally recognized speaker on Bible prophecy. He has a Doctor of Ministry degree from Western Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Literature degree from Liberty University.  He is the founder and president and LaHaye ministries and co-founder of Pre-Trib Research. Dr. LaHaye speaks at many Bible prophecy conferences in the United States and Canada. He was a pastor for 25 years and started 3 churches in different locations. He has written over 60 non-fiction book all about various topics. With over 14 million printed books some of which have been translated into 30 different languages! Dr. LaHaye has also designed the LaHaye Temperate Analysis. Which has been used by well over 30,000 people. He has been married for over 60 years to his wife who is chairmen of the board and founder of Concerned Women for America. They live in South Carolina and have 4 grown children, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren! (That's quite a family!) Like I said earlier, I'm not being a stalker just simply a good researcher...Anyways, here's the link to his website if you want more information. https://timlahaye.com/Home/Content/511
I know this is quite a lengthy blog, but I have to say, I'm actually fascinated at how successful these authors are! It's really impressive and gives me good background knowledge as I continue reading there book.

New post...Finally!

I know that its been a very long time since I've posted and its mainly because I've been really lazy.. my apologies! I was reading a book but I had to put it down. It was just so boring! I tried to keep reading it but it wasn't getting any better. I'm now reading a book called Taken. Many of you probably haven't heard of this book but my brother recommended it to me like 3 days ago. I'm actually looking forward to reading this book because my brother kept going on and on about how interesting it was. I'm currently on page like 4 but by reading the back of the cover, it does seem pretty interesting. So far I can tell that their are at least 4 main characters (by the back cover). Their names are: Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and Ryan. The first chapter only explains the life of one out of the four main characters. I suspect that's how the next few chapters will go-- in detail on all of their lives. I cant wait to get more into this book!

Finished it!

I finally finished Dirty Little Secrets and was very surprised at how good it was. The ending was a bit shocking but none the less it was good. A quote that the author uses towards the last pages caught my attention because it really painted a picture in my head. "It didn’t roar and it didn’t jump to life-the fire unfolded purposefully before my eyes as if it were an animal that was slowly coming out of hiding, creeping forward and waiting to see if I was going to chase it back into its cave." (Omololu 207) Omololu uses a literary device which was a simile. I don’t know about you but that puts a very clear picture in my head hence why it caught my attention. This book was very well written and I might just even read other books by this author!

Recommendation!

I'm just about done with Dirty Little Secrets and it’s been a very good book to read. I recommend it to anyone who has some type of interest in adventure that 'shock' factor or some romance. I personally liked this book because it wasn’t flat. It had some suspense and kept you intrigued to continue reading it. Omololu writes "I couldn't spend another second in that house. I had to get out if I was going to keep hold of my sanity and salvage anything."(Omololu 164). To the people who haven't read this book, I hope you're wondering why she didn't want to be in her house. Was it because of a family problem? Was she trying to avoid a problem? Or could it be something else? I encourage you to read and find out! I surely wasn’t expecting what happened next and I found myself not being able to put down the book!

Dirty Little Secrets

Im reading a book titled Dirty Little Secrets. This book is very interesting in my opinion. I think this because the characters all have completly different personalities and each have a different way of handeling things. All these charaters are dealing with problems that effet them emotionally but some chose to use them as an example on how they dont want to be in there life and some chose to bottle it all up and keep it a secret. I predict this secret will eventually rise to surface and it wont be pretty.
